Robert Elliot Long was born in Brownwood, Texas on July 25, 1947. He graduated from Florida Southern College in 1969 with a major in government and a minor in history. Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Long was a commissioned officer in the Intelligence Branch of the United States Army, rising to the rank of Captain. He was qualified as an Armor Officer, an Intelligence Officer, a Green Beret, and an Airborne Parachutist. He volunteered for service in Vietnam, flew 25 missions as an aerial observer over the Ho Chi Minh Trail and among other military awards received the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star for meritorius acheivement in ground operations against hostile forces in Vietnam. Graduating from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary in 1974, Mr. Long began his private practice in Hampton, Virginia, with Montague, Montague and Long. In 1989, Mr. Long formed Robert E. Long and Associates, Ltd., where he continues to emphasize his civil and criminal practice including divorce, custody, wills and estate planning, personal injury, elder law, products liability, business and commercial law.

David S. Dildy joined Robert E. Long and Associates in January, 2007.  A 2002 graduate of Regent University School of Law, Mr. Dildy's primary practice areas include adoptions, divorce, custody, personal injury, civil litigation, wills and estate planning, business law and criminal defense work.

Susan R. Long was certified by the Virgina Supreme Court as a Mediator. Her mediation practice involves family law, including divorce and custody issues, and civil disputes, including contract disputes, real estate matters, and landlord/tenant disputes. A graduate of Longwood College, Mrs. Long has worked as an elementary art teacher for the City of Hampton, a technical illustrator for the United States Army and Navy, and was in charge of the design and implementation of the renovation of several downtown Hampton buildings during the past twenty-five years.

Kelly L. Allen joined Robert E. Long and Associates full time in May, 1997.  Mrs. Allen is a graduate of Christopher Newport University, with a degree in Governmental Administration.  In addition to being the firms' Office Manager, she concentrates primarily on the civil matters handled by the firm.
